It was a hot and sunny day at Bear Mountain as some of the best snowboarders in the world competed on a sweet rail set-up at the tail end of the summer at this year’s Hot Dawgz and Hand Rails. etnies Girl rider Laura Hadar killed the girls’ class as her gap to 50-50 on the down-flat-down rail secured her first place and $2,000. etnies Girl flow rider and former etnies Girl of the Month Melissa Evans caught everyone’s eye as she stepped on to the scene at her local mountain, nailing a variety of tricks down the flat-down-flat box. Her run earned her second place and $1,500. Also representing etnies Girl and ThirtyTwo were pro rider Leanne Pelosi and Canadian distributor rider Spencer O’Brien, who did a great job as well for the first contest of the season. Congratulations, ladies!

etnies Girl-Supported Mural Raises $18K for Charity

It feels good to give back, which is why etnies Girl enlisted one of our favorite artists, Casey O’Connell, to contribute to The Bridge Mural Project at the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) Trade Expo on Sept. 8, 9 and 10 in San Diego. Casey, along with a team of other well-known artists and designers representing top action sports brands, created an 8’ x 32’ collage/mural illustrating an interpretation of the word “Give,” the theme of the project, to generate awareness and funds for SurfAid International and the Keep-A-Breast Foundation. Their work was also filmed as part of a documentary that will air on the Bridge Web site. All told, the project raised $18,000 for Keep-A-Breast and SurfAid International. We’d like to give a big thanks to Casey for representing etnies Girl in this project!

etnies Girl’s New Music Search Winner!

Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, September 14, 2006

newmusicsearch400_400

Congratulations to The Most Holy Trinity for winning etnies Girl’s New Music Search! The band’s song “Call the Doctor” will be on the soundtrack of our upcoming team DVD, which will be available starting Nov. 10 as a gift with purchase at select retail locations while supplies last.

The Most Holy Trinity was formed after Trinity Toft (songwriter, vocals) and Charlie Duff (beats and programming) met through an Internet personals site in 2004. Although a romantic connection was not made, a love of music brought them together. Trinity had previously been in various musical projects in San Francisco and, after a stint as a backup dancer with the band Hey Willpower, she decided to continue on her own. Drawing from their mutual appreciation of pop, hip-hop, soul, electro, and rock and roll, the two began sending music back and forth from San Francisco to Arlington, Va., over the course of the next year. Charlie called upon his musical cohort, Paavo Steinkamp, who was in Miami, for additional production and the three of them channeled the divine force that gives breath to The Most Holy Trinity.

The influences and inspiration of these three are all over the map. Aside from making tunes you can dance to, there wasn’t any specific direction. With this freedom and willingness, a diverse collection of tracks was created. Some songs are reminiscent of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, while some run in a completely different vein, like the song “Caffeine,” which draws its influence from dancehall music. Other songs take listeners through a completely different type of futuristic, off-the-wall run that may even sound vintage to some. The Most Holy Trinity’s first single, “The Gallery Is a Guillotine,” will be released in fall 2006 on Brown Bottle Records. Their full-length debut album, “Rituals for Parting,” will follow in the latter half of fall 2006.

Sarah Whitmore Wins WMA Round 6, Tarah Gieger Takes Third!

Posted by: Sarah | Tuesday, September 5, 2006

sarahsteelcity400_600

Congratulations to etnies Girl team riders Sarah Whitmore and Tarah Gieger for placing first and third, respectively, at the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) Pro National Championships this past weekend! The race was the sixth and final stop of the 2006 WMA Pro National series, and was held at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Penn.

Heavy downpours postponed the race, scheduled for Saturday, until Sunday. Moto one saw Sarah and overall points leader Jessica Patterson seesawing back and forth for the lead. In the end, Sarah pulled out the victory with teammate Tarah snagging second.

In moto two, Sarah rode a bit more conservatively than in the first race and grabbed second just behind Patterson, while Tarah finished in fifth. Sarah’s scores earned her a first place finish for the day and seventh place overall for the series. Tarah finished in third both for the day and the series.

Tarah began the season coming off an injury and Sarah suffered an injury in the midst of the series, but both came back strong in the last few races. “After struggling all year with this shoulder injury, it feels great to end the year with a win,” Sarah told Transworld Motocross. “I came to Steel City just hoping to be on the podium again, because my shoulder is still killing me, but the day turned out better than I could have ever imagined.”

Both girls will take a little time off to recuperate before heading to the etnies Girls Get on Board clinic in Colton, Calif., on Oct. 7, and then the WMA Cup in Cycle Ranch, Texas, in November.
