It’s been a big week for etnies Girl team birthdays! Lauren Perkins’ birthday was two days ago and today our favorite Canuck is celebrating her big day. We’d like to wish a very happy birthday to team snowboarder Leanne Pelosi! Considering her nickname is “Party Pelosi,” we’re guessing she’s going to have a good one…

etnies Holiday Festival 2006!

Pierre André Senizergues, owner and CEO of etnies, hosted etnies’ Third Annual Holiday Festival at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest last Friday, Dec. 15, and gave away 569 pairs of shoes to less fortunate kids who really needed them. The entire Sole Technology Crew, along with Santa, Mrs. Claus and etnies team riders, came out to ring in the holiday season and hook up the kids with new etnies. At the celebration, which marked the third anniversary of the skatepark, etnies also announced that Pierre André has yet again made a generous donation of $30,000 to keep the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest FREE for another year!
“Growing up in Paris, I couldn’t afford to go to a skatepark,” said Pierre André. “So I told myself if I ever had the opportunity to provide kids a free environment to skate, I would do whatever it takes to support them and skateboarding!”

Lauren Perkins will co-host Fuel TV’s “The Daily Habit” this Friday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m. PST (9 p.m. EST), with special musical guest …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.
Tune in to find out what Lauren did with the $10,000 second-place prize she won at this summer’s X Games, why her life has been documented on video for the past four years, and how her skateboarding as been influenced both by growing up in Huntington Beach, Calif., and by her etnies Girl teammate, Elissa Steamer. Viewers will also get the chance to win a copy of the new etnies Girl team DVD “12-PACK,” the first all-female action sports DVD of its kind.

First Year of etnies Girls Get on Board a Success!

We just wrapped up the first year of etnies Girls Get on Board (GGOB), our signature series of all-girls action sports instructional clinics, and we want to thank everyone who attended a clinic this year and helped to make the series a huge success!
Hundreds of etnies Girls, ranging in age from four to 56, participated in etnies GGOB clinics in skateboarding, surfing and motocross across the country from May to November. We have lots of plans in the works for etnies GGOB in 2007, including expanding the series with additional stops in the United States and Europe.
Encouraging females through one-on-one interaction and hands-on training is at the core of the etnies GGOB program, which seeks to provide females of all ages basic skills and confidence building in skateboarding, surfing, motocross and BMX. The clinics allow girls to learn action sports in a safe, fun and comfortable environment, while enabling them to interact with professional athletes such as etnies Girl team riders Elissa Steamer, Lauren Perkins, Nina Buitrago, Stacey Mulligan, Mary Osborne, Tarah Gieger and Sarah Whitmore.
Alyssa Mease, a 24-year-old from York, Penn., drove two hours to the etnies GGOB skate clinic in Frederick, Md. After taking the clinic, she said: “Today has been a life changing day for me. You have no idea. I’ve learned more in these four hours than in the five years I’ve been trying to teach myself.”

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 39.5 million people worldwide living with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, including 2.3 million children. During 2006, some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25.
Ignorance and prejudice are fueling the spread of this preventable disease. There still is no cure for AIDS, but you can do your part to halt the spread of the epidemic by taking a moment to learn the facts about HIV/AIDS.
