Congratulations to team rider Serena Brooke and to Australia distributor rider Sally Fitzgibbons for earning a place on the podium at the Roxy Women’s Surf Festival, which took place at Woolamai Beach, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia, Jan 22-28. Serena took home third place and $1700 in the five-star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event, and Sally snagged second in the under 18 division. Well done, ladies!

Congrats to etnies Girl team rider Leanne Pelosi for taking sixth place and to etnies Girl Canadian distributor riders Marie-France Roy and Spencer O’Brien for placing fifth and eighth, respectively, in Women’s Slopestyle at the Winter X Games this past weekend. Unfortunately, team rider Janna Meyen was unable to try for a record-breaking fifth gold medal in a row in the event due to an injured ankle, but she’s staying positive for next year. Congrats to all of the ladies!

etnies Announces 2007 European Contest Dates!

etnies has announced its European contest dates for 2007, including the first European etnies Goofy Vs. Regular (GvR), which is set for June 15-17 at the Prissick Skatepark in Middlesbrough, UK. Closing out the summer will be etnies’ legendary European Skateboard Championship (ESC), set for Aug. 9-12 in Basel, Switzerland.
Included in the etnies GvR Europe three-day event will be a Bowlmasters contest and etnies Girl PUSH Jam. The seventh annual ESC will include vert, street, mini ramp bowl, as well as the European Skateboard Junior Champs and etnies Girl PUSH Jam.

etnies Announces 2007 GvR Dates!

The fourth annual etnies GvR (Goofy vs. Regular) is set for Oct. 4-7, 2007, at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, and the first GvR Europe is scheduled for June 15-17, 2007, at the Prissick Skatepark in Middlesbrough, UK! The winner of each stance at GvR Europe will earn a wildcard spot at GvR in the U.S.
GvR brings together the best professional skateboarders in the world aligned by their stance, either goofy foot or regular foot, in the ultimate battle for stance supremacy. After going down in 2004, goofy came back and took the GvR title in 2005, spearheaded by 2005 MVP and etnies pro, Ronnie Creager. The goofies took their second victory in 2006 led by Jereme Rogers. The series is now 2-1, with the goofies leading going into 2007. Will regular return with a vengeance, repeating the sheer annihilation of goofy as they did in ’04, or will team goofy hold it down with a third win? Stay tuned…

Leanne Wins Malay Factor Award at Honda Sessions Rail Jam!

Congrats to team rider Leanne Pelosi for winning the Malay Factor Award for best trick at the Honda Sessions Rail Jam in Vail, Colo., this past Friday, Jan. 12! Leanne secured her victory with a solid frontside 270 on, fakie out. She also placed ninth overall in the event and took home a total of $1800. etnies Girl Canadian distributor rider Marie-France Roy placed fourth, earning her $1150. Make sure to catch both riders competing in Women’s Slopestyle at the Winter X Games, which will air on ESPN Saturday, Jan. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Good luck, ladies!

etnies Girl Welcomes WQS Standout Leilani Gryde to the Team!

We are proud to announce the addition of top 10 rated Association of Professional Surfers (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) surfer Leilani Gryde to the etnies Girl team! Just 20 years old and with only two years of WQS experience under her belt, the Hawaii native has already gotten close to making the elite ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), narrowly missing the cut by just one place last year. She joins etnies Girl’s team of elite surf, skate, snow, motocross and BMX talent, who continue to build the momentum of females in action sports.
Born and raised in Kona, Hawaii, and now based in Southern California, “Lei Lei” or “Grommet,” as she is affectionately known, started shortboard surfing at 11 years old while at YMCA summer camp. She became a major force on the junior circuit, with an NSSA National Championship title to her credit in 2002, as well as consistent top-four placings in numerous regional events around the globe, prior to her top seeding on the WQS. In addition to her etnies Girl sponsorship, Leilani is the only sponsored female athlete on Lost Surfboards, and is also sponsored by Oakley.
Leilani joins current etnies Girl motocross standout Tarah Gieger, who was recently signed to the surf team (making her the first multisport etnies Girl athlete), as well as longboarder Mary Osborne and WCT veteran Serena Brooke. The team is rounded out by skaters Elissa Steamer, Lauren Perkins and Evelien Bouilliart, snowboarders Leanne Pelosi and Janna Meyen, motocross riders Tarah Gieger and Sarah Whitmore, and BMX riders Nina Buitrago and Stacey Mulligan.
