This summer etnies Girls Get on Board (GGOB) will be partnering with GRO (Girls Riders Organization) to hit up more than 22 locations throughout the United States and Europe. Check out the newly updated 2007 Dates & Locations page to see if we’re coming to your town, and make sure to stay tuned for additional announcements and to learn how you can sign up for a clinic.

Encouraging females through one-on-one interaction and hands-on training is at the core of the etnies GGOB program, which seeks to provide females of all ages basic skills and confidence building in skateboarding, surfing, motocross and BMX. The clinics allow girls to learn action sports in a safe, fun and comfortable environment, while enabling them to interact with professional athletes such as etnies Girl team riders Elissa Steamer, Lauren Perkins, Nina Buitrago, Stacey Mulligan, Mary Osborne, Tarah Gieger and Sarah Whitmore.

We hope to see you at an etnies Girls Get on Board clinic this year!

Our favorite Dutch skater, Louisa Menke, recently traveled to sunny Southern California, and we couldn’t resist posting this photo from her visit. Is that postcard worthy or what?

Vote Now for Leanne and Bev for “If Ullr Was a Girl” Contest!

Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, March 15, 2007

etgirl_lpalosi400_400_01

etnies Girl riders Leanne Pelosi and Bev Vuilleumier need your votes!

Both girls have qualified for the “If Ullr Was a Girl” competition…and your vote could help make one of them $25,000 richer!

There are four components to the competition, with each being weighed equally. That’s where you come in. The girls need to receive as many votes as possible to help them win. You can vote once per rider, per day, until voting closes on April 18.

The other parts of the contest include a pipe and park event, a creative presentation and a big mountain competition, which will all take place April 13-22 at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.

The Ullr Girl title and $25,000 prize will be awarded to the finalist with the most points after all four competitions.

Please vote for Leanne and vote for Bev early and often!

Good luck, ladies!

Alize Montes: Seven and Doing Disasters

Posted by: Sarah | Wednesday, March 14, 2007

roxyclassic400_400

The first time I saw Alize Montes skate was at the bowl contest at last year’s GvR. What made her stand out from the crowd wasn’t just her phenomenal skating—it was that she came up to my waist! At just seven years old, Alize is absolutely fearless and on her way to becoming one of the best female skaters out there. She’s also the newest (and youngest) member of the etnies Girl flow team.

Oh, and did I mention that she snowboards too? The photo above is of Alize and Laura Lynn Murphey, etnies Girl’s Team Manager, from Alize’s first snowboarding competition, last weekend’s Roxy Classic held at Bear Mountain.

The 34th just ran an article about Alize (with plenty of photos and video) that’s worth checking out. Expect great things from Alize and stay tuned for her upcoming etnies Girl of the Month interview!

etnies Girl & Club Tattoo Collaboration

etnies Girl’s newest collaboration is with Club Tattoo, and we’re officially launching the shoes, which are set for a fall 2007 release, with a little help from Linkin Park lead singer and Club Tattoo co-founder Chester Bennington. Bennington will host an exclusive invite-only party this week at the etnies New York showroom featuring the shoes, tattoo artwork, tattooed models and live tattoo demonstrations.

“I’m really excited about the collaboration because it gives us a chance to blend our mutual passion for art, body and lifestyle in a unique way,” said Bennington. “etnies and Club Tattoo live what we do, love what we do and together we’ve created a perfect connection between body art and street style.”

Inspired by art, self-expression, individuality and skateboarding, all of the shoes feature traditional tattoo artwork and are available in two styles, the popular “Bernie” (pictured above) and “Fakie” (below). The shoes will be available in stores in both men’s and women’s styles in June.

Her hard work is already paying off with a third place finish in the first WQS event of the season, the five-star Roxy Pro in Phillips Island, Australia, in January. Next up for Serena, she’ll compete at the five-star Midori Pro in Merewether, Newcastle, Australia, on March 12-17.

etnies Girl Riders Finish Strong at Northstar-at-Tahoe

leanneboardslide400_480

Congratulations to team rider Leanne Pelosi and Canadian distributor rider Marie-France Roy for dominating at the Vans Cup at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in Truckee, Calif., over the weekend!

Defending her title from last year’s event, Leanne took home third in the women’s rail jam against tough competition with a solid boardslide to 270 out. Marie-France nailed the best trick in the rail jam with a flawless boardslide to fakie down the kink, and also earned a third place finish in the slopestyle event. For their efforts, Leanne pocketed $1,000 and Marie-France took home a total of $4,000 between both events.

Both Leanne and Marie-France will be traveling back east for the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain, Vt., March 14-18; after that, they will tentatively head west again for the Roxy Chicken Jam in Park City, Utah, March 22-25.
