If you spend much time at the etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest, chances are you’ve seen Alize, our current etnies Girl of the Month and the newest (and youngest) member of the etnies Girl flow team. What makes her immediately stand out from the crowd is her phenomenal skating coupled with the fact that she’s pint-sized and probably wearing something pink. At just seven years old, Alize is absolutely fearless and on her way to becoming one of the best female skaters out there. We chatted with her about how she got into pool skating, why she’s an etnies Girl and her biggest goal.
“When grow up, if I’m a pro skater, I’m going to try to raise money for sick kids.”
etnies Girl: What are your interests?
Alize: Mostly skateboarding and snowboarding, but I also like animals, dancing, coloring and singing a lot.
etnies Girl: What are your talents?
Alize: I think I’m good at skateboarding and snowboarding.
etnies Girl: How did you get involved in skateboarding?
Alize: Well, I was snowboarding first, and my mom wanted me to keep up with snowboarding over the summer, so she got me into skateboarding and that kind of became my sport.
etnies Girl: How did you get into pool skating?
Alize: What I did is I brought my street tricks inside the bowl and just pretended that it was a street course.
etnies Girl: Does it ever scare you? You seem so fearless!
Alize: When I got my airs over the coping it sort of scared me a little bit. So I just started practicing and practicing, and I finally got comfortable with it.
etnies Girl: Do you enjoy competing?
Alize: Yeah, it’s fun. I like meeting new people and I just like the good opportunity.
etnies Girl: When did you start competing and how often do you compete?
Alize: I did my first one when I was four and it was against all boys! I compete a lot now, especially in the summer.
etnies Girl: What do you like about etnies Girl?
Alize: I like that etnies does a lot of stuff for girls, way more than other shoe companies. It’s great because other people see about you and stuff, like with this interview.
etnies Girl: Why are you an etnies Girl?
Alize: Because I’m myself. I learn tricks that I want to learn, not what I see everyone else is doing. I even skate in skirts!
etnies Girl: What do you do for fun?
Alize: I like to play with make-up and dress up, I love the park, coloring, and I like hanging out with my friends a lot.
etnies Girl: Where do you find inspiration?
Alize: Skaters like Patrick Ryan and Curren Caples. I see them skate and it makes me want to learn.
etnies Girl: What’s your biggest accomplishment?
Alize: Learning my late grab. It took me three months of practicing everyday.
etnies Girl: Why do you love skateboarding so much?
Alize: Because you get to hang out with friends; but you’re not just hanging out when you play with them, you’re learning too.
etnies Girl: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Alize: My family tells me just to go out there and have fun, try my best and that anybody who tries their best is a winner.
etnies Girl: What’s really important to you?
Alize: My family and a good education.
etnies Girl: What’s one you’re your biggest goals?
Alize: Ever since I was about five, I’ve been thinking of a goal. And I thought of one. When grow up, if I’m a pro skater, I’m going to try to raise money for sick kids. My mom says that’s great and that even now I can try to do demos for sick kids. Maybe I can get my friends together and we can get $1 for each ticket and give the money to the sick kids. That’s my goal.
etnies Girl: Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?
Alize: When grow up I want to be a pro skateboarder, pro snowboarder and a veterinarian. I want to get off work, show up at the skatepark, change into some skate shoes and start skateboarding!

etnies Girl & Aaron Kraten Collaboration and Giveaway!
Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, April 5, 2007
etnies Girl and Southern California native Aaron Kraten have united for a special collection that expresses a shared passion for art and skateboarding culture. Inspired by the individuality of girls who skateboard in an urban environment, Kraten’s artistic interpretation is reflected through this creative collaboration, the first in the etnies Girl Starving Artist Collection.
About the Starving Artist Collection
We’re all driven by art, creativity and individuality. Many of us have starved and sacrificed everything to live our lifestyle and survive off what we are passionate about. At etnies, artistic inspiration, passion and dedication inspire us, which is why we choose up-and-coming artists to create the Starving Artist Collection with us.
About Aaron Kraten
Aaron Kraten has always had a passion for art. From a young age, he carried around small sketchbooks so he could draw whenever and wherever inspiration hit. In 1999, he found an audience for his artwork when he started working at a thrift store in Costa Mesa, Calif., where he began displaying his fingerpainted work, which utilized abandoned mixed media materials and store paint. He soon began submitting his work to local galleries and museums, and currently shows about four times a year. “I can truly say these are the best days of my life,” says Kraten, whose exposure to the action sports industry and lifestyle has led him to work with a wide range of companies for special collaborations and products. To learn more, visit Aaron Kraten online.
