Attend “The White Album” Art Show With etnies and Aaron Kraten
Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, August 9, 2007
Join etnies at an art show inspired by The Beatles’ “The White Album” next Saturday, Aug. 18, from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Pinch Gallery (440 E. 17th St.) in Costa Mesa, Calif. Exhibiting artists include etnies Starving Artist Aaron Kraten.
Aaron Kraten has always had a passion for art. From a young age, he carried around small sketchbooks so he could draw whenever and wherever inspiration hit. In 1999, he found an audience for his artwork when he started working at a thrift store in Costa Mesa, Calif., where he began displaying his fingerpainted work, which utilized abandoned mixed media materials and store paint. He soon began submitting his work to local galleries and museums, and currently shows about four times a year. “I can truly say these are the best days of my life,” says Kraten, whose exposure to the action sports industry and lifestyle has led him to work with a wide range of companies for special collaborations and products.

X Games 13 Team Update
Posted by: Sarah | Thursday, August 2, 2007
etnies Girl TM Laura Lynn Murphey sent this team update straight from X Games 13. Ch-Ch-Check It Out!
X GAMES 13: PRE-GAME
It’s that time of year again! The summer X Games is upon us, and Elissa Steamer, Evelien Bouilliart, Lauren Perkins and flow rider Holly Lyons will all be returning to Los Angeles for another year of summer X madness. A new one to the crew is flow team rider Lorena Lima, who was picked as the first alternate in the contest. In addition to the skate team, etnies Girl BMX team rider Nina Buitrago will be in town to help out with some etnies Girls Get on Board clinics on-site. Rumors are also spreading that etnies Girl surfer Mary Osborne and snowboarder Leanne Pelosi will be heading out for the weekend to watch the girls compete and attend the parties. W00t!
The first of the pack to arrive was Evelien Bouilliart, who always flies in a few days before the first practice to adjust from Belgium time. She also learned her lesson last year when the airline lost her bags, so she gave herself a few extra days just in case history repeated itself. Ironically, it did and poor Evie was bagless for the first two days of her stay. A $75 gift card from British Airways and a trip to the company store at Sole Technology headquarters quickly resolved the issue…at least temporarily. During her visit, Evelien also happened to snap a few quick Polaroids, borrow a board to tear up the rails in the STI Lab and convince a variety of people to buy her lunch and coffee. She’s good like that.
X GAMES STREET PRACTICE: DAY 1
As Evelien’s bags finally arrived, so did some of her etnies teammates. Everyone finally reunited at the first street course practice on Wednesday. Elissa Steamer flew into town having celebrated her birthday just the day before in San Francisco, Lorena Lima made her first trek to X Games from New Jersey with her brother (it was her birthday today…the BIG 1-7) and Lauren Perkins rolled in from Huntington Beach fashionably late rockin’ a pair of sweet vintage Oakley’s. It is always an exciting day for the girls to see a new course, see good friends and warm up their legs for the upcoming excitement. The girls were skating well (duh) and started to get on their game faces. Thankfully, no injuries occurred today and hopefully the same goes for tomorrow. (Knock on wood.) Evelien had a few spills trying to nail a frontside blunt grind that gave her some heavy bruises on her hip, but that’s nothing considering she is already skating with a broken wrist. That’s just how she rolls.
Stay tuned for more updates from X Games 13!
