Sally in 2nd!
by: Alex | Monday, March 31, 2008
etnies Australia surfer Sally Fitzgibbons just keeps racking up the points. She came in a close 2nd at the weekend's Motorola Pro Jr. in Newcastle, Australia.
It was a tight final heat between the current world and Australian junior champion and her frequent opponent Laura Enever. In the last minutes of the competition, Enever just barely defeated Fitzgibbons with a final score of 16.65 to 13.20. The competitors just faced off a few weeks ago in a WQS event at the Arrive Alive Central Coast Pro, where Sally took home the first place championship with Enever in second.
In yet another impressive display of talent, eighteen-year-old Fitzgibbons scored the only perfect 10 wave in the third round at the event. The second place standing in Newcastle adds to her already impressive list of wins in the 2008 Australian surfing season.
Keep it comin' Sally!

Shoe The Shoeless
by: Alex | Monday, March 24, 2008
Last Friday, etnies kicked off Spring Break at the Los Angeles Mission's Easter Event... not quite the barefoot romp we'd normally opt for, but well worth it.

etnies founder and CEO Pierre André Senizergues lead the team in delivering 2,000 pairs of new shoes to the homeless on LA's Skid Row. Each person was welcomed with a hearty holiday meal, a cleansing foot bath and a pair of etnies.

“Growing up I had the opportunity to meet a lot of homeless people while I was out skating spots in the city, and I really felt for them,” said Senizergues.

etnies Snow Day!!
by: Alex | Friday, March 21, 2008
Everyone can use a day out of the office and out in the snow, at least everyone here can. That's why, on Wednesday, the crew here at etnies headed to Bear Mtn for the company's annual Snow Day! Buses and caravans shuttled everyone up to the mountain for a full day of riding and team building. It was the etnies version of a field trip... permission slips and all! The weather was great, the ThirtyTwo boots were awesome(!) and a good time was had by all.
Even a couple team riders joined in the fun. Miss Alize Montes normally shreds on pavement but she's got some moves on the snow too. And we already knew from GvR Snow that Lauren Perkins tears up the slopes when she's not skating.

She took 1st at last weekend's Arrive Alive Pro at Soldiers Beach, Australia and scored an interview in the May issue of Australia's Surfing Life Magazine. It's early in the season but Sally's at the top of the WQS charts and shows no signs of slowing down.
Congratulations Sally!
etnies Snow Team Update
by: Alex | Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Markku Koski stopped by Fuel TV’s studio to chat with Pat and film a Daily Habit episode which will air later this month (check back for air times). Shortly after his visit, he jumped on a flight headed for the US Open in Stratton, VT.

Simon Chamberlain and Joe Sexton recently returned from a successful trip out in Toronto filming with Mack Dawg. Word on the streets...Joe Sexton’s killing it with Mack Dawg.
Marie-France Roy spent the last couple of weeks in Russia getting her shred on and drinking the finest Vodka. She’s headed to Vermont for the US Open this week.
Leanne Pelosi was last seen in the streets of Montreal slaughtering the rails. She’s headed to Vermont to compete in the US open this week.
Ståle Sandbech continues to ride hard and work hard. He’s been shooting tons of photos with his brother and getting a lot of coverage in several magazines.
Tyler Flanagan will be in Mammoth riding everyday and finishing up his home schooling just in time for Spring madness.
Stian Solberg has been hanging out in Southern California working on his tan. He took a slight fall after the GVR snow filming with the StepChild crew at Bear so he decided to take some time off to heal. You may see him in the local mountains sometime this week.
J.P. Walker and Wille Yli-Luoma will be in Whistler for the time being. They plan on posting up to hit the back country for the month or until the weather turns on them.
And happening now...the US Open in Stratton Vermont. Look for results later in the week.

Nina B's Full Report & 1st Place Win
by: Alex | Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Featured Rider Nina Buitrago tore up Toronto and sent us the following report from Saturday's Toronto Bike Jam:
Holy wow! Just got in from Toronto, Canada from the 2nd annual Toronto BMX Jam. The course was really fun and the turnout was amazing, especially considering the northeastern region of north america got slammed with about 2 feet of snow!!

Here's a few of beautiful Toronto skyline : ) the roads were a sheet of ice!!
With all the bad weather conditions, we only had 5 girls competing: (L-R: Nina B, Rose Huston [Massachusetts], Maude Lague [Quebec], Angie Marino [New York], (not pictured Jessica Ausec [Colorado].
pre-contest group bathroom shot ha

Rockin' out during practice:

The contest was great, I was impressed with the level of progression from last year and the course really challenged everyone to go big. The crowd was feeding off of our energy, getting us that much more excited to go for the moves we'd all been scared of, the girls were going nuts, Rose trying tailwhips, Angie Marino doing some smooth 360's and Jessica Ausec, street assasin came out destroying the ledges w/different grind variations. Maude Lague had some good transfers, technical moves in the bowl and is airing out smoother and higher each time I see her. I was really excited and discovered my favorite line on the course: street spine transfer to the wedge to wedge landing where I got done some barspins, nothings, (still waiting on some pictures) and after some grueling attempts i finally nailed a 50-50 on the scariest subrailing I've ever tried. I'm happy to say we all made it out alive and well to tell about it and Canada is probably still talking about how much energy was in the room, making the girls class by far one of the most exciting heats to watch.
And here we are with our bags of prizes; I ended up with first and Rose Huston with a close 2nd:

Girl's Class Final Results:
1. Nina Buitrago
2. Rose Huston
3. Jessica Ausec
4. Angie Marino
5. Maude Lague
post-contest celebration shot:
L-R: top row: rose huston, maude lague, angie marino, angie "skwirl", bottom row: jessica ausec and nina b

That's all i got for now but more pictures soon to come!!!!!!

Thanks for the details, Nina, and congrats on your win!
Nina B GiveawayGvR Snow - Girl's Eye View
by: Alex | Tuesday, March 11, 2008
For the Ladies of GvR, the day started in the wee hours of the morning...
etnies rider Bev and our good friend (and designated driver) Kimmy headed out with etnies TM Laura Lynn for the early morning practice, while the rest of us stayed behind posting blogs and getting dressed.
Not long after, etnies pro skateboarder Lauren Perkins remembered her pants (pants first, then boots) and everyone else headed for the mountain, sorted out passes and hopped on the nearest lift.
After a few good runs it was a short ride down to the contest tent to check out the scene and meet up with Bev resting up between heats.
Bev made it into the finals as a wild card for the Regular Team and scored a nice little check to the tune of a grand.
The day went from sunny, to snowy, to rainy...but Ghostface Killah still took the stage and got the party started...said party consisted of, among other things, girls and guys and a whole lotta love.
Still feel like you missed out? Check out the photo gallery and try not to be bitter. Don't forget about the GvR Lifestyle Gallery for more.

etnies Girl Of The Month: Gina Romo
by: Alex | Friday, March 7, 2008

This month's etnies Girl is a rider and a writer with loads of inspiration for both. All the way from Bakersfield, say "hello" to Gina!
Give us the basics: your name, age, town/city, school, grade level/year and your favorite subject.
My name is ginA romO. I just recently turned 18. I live in Bakersfield, California. I'm a senior at Foothill High School. My favorite subject has always been English because I love to write.
You mentioned style a couple times…is fashion your main interest?
Fashion is somewhat my main interest. Everyone has there own style whether it be in the latest fashion trend or the way they present themselves, everyone is not the same. I express my style through clothes and how I present myself.

My style is based on the type of mood I'm in for that day. I'm real chill. At times I do like to get all dressed up when I'm going out. When I go skating I throw on my krew jeans, a skate shirt and some kicks, gotta have my smackers Lip Gloss. Haha. When I'm at school people would never think I enjoy skating and dirtbikes because my style is based on the latest trends and the latest magazines: Teen Vogue, Cosmo Girl, Seventeen and Style. At times I come to school with bruises on my legs and a real cute Forever 21 shirt on. Haha. My close friends knows whats up. (:
Any hidden talents?
Well I love to write; I've been writing poems and lyrics since I was in the 6th grade. Now I have about 6 composition books filled up. If I'm out and about and I think of a good quote for either a song or a poem, I grab the nearest thing to write on. Often its been napkins and post-it notes. Haha. I also love to sing. I've been in choir all throughout elementary, jr. high and honors choir in high school. When I was thirteen I had guitar lessons. I wouldn't mind picking it back up and putting those composition books to work.
Why do you like etnies?
I like etnies because they where my first pair of skate shoes so I have to represent!!! Haha.
They support young talents and it gives young chicks an opportunity to show off there talents. The SEED Project is another thing that is really interesting to me anything to make the world a better place is gnarlyyyy.
What do the words “etnies Girl” mean to you?
"etnies Girl," to me, means being bubbly, having your own thoughts and feelings. Sticking up for what you believe is right. Everyone has a voice and an etnies Girl uses that voice. There are a lot of stereotypical people in the world and being an etnies Girl proves that we are kinda breaking the boundaries—for seeing people for who they really are, not just what the outside appears to be.
Tell us about the skateboards and dirtbikes in your life. What got your started and what do you enjoy most about those?
WOW! Skateboarding I've known since I was in the 6th grade going into 7th grade summer school. My cousin Martin used to skate with my older sister, so thats how I got into it. I used to go to this church called Canyon Hills and every Friday night they would have this thing called "skatenight". It was pretty brutal; they had it all set up in the parking lot...kickers, rails, a box, halfpipe, quarterpipe. I rolled around getting in kids ways—me and my pink helmet covered with stickers...Britney Spears sticker on one side and on the other side a Mark Appleyard and a Tom Penny sticker! Eventually I progressed. My Dad bought me my first Whitesands complete; it looked like a BlackLabel. It was still prettttyy sweeet. I'd be outside on the hottest days trying to learn how to pop the deck up high enough to call it an ollie, haha. Eventually I got it down. So here I was, this 13 year old girl, rolling around with the boys, trying to find the newest skate spots, knowing we would get kicked out an hour into our session. I met most of my friends through skating. It kinda sucked for me because I was the only girl and all I had to skate with were all dudes. I mean, it would have been nice to skate with another chick to talk about boys or clothes, lol, but the guys got me more and always made me laugh. Now I kinda know girls are nothing but drama! Haha.
Now I go to this skate spot called "shindig" every Thursday Downtown. I just recently got my TTR 125 Yamaha dirtbike and I really enjoy riding. It's a rush. I plan to ride more and skating is more competitive...you're gonna get hurt no matter what. Thats just the type of sport it is. I mean, you can't buy your tricks on e-bay, haha. But for those who can't skate, it's also nice to cruse it.
What do you do for fun with your friends?
The three S's: Skate, Shows, Shoppin', LOL.
Where do you find inspiration to ride?
My inspiration to ride comes from the pros! Especially the girls. They give skateboarding a whole new meaning. Some favorite girl pros I like are Amy Caron and Vanessa Torres; both are awesome, awesome riders. My favorite guy pros are Corey Duffel, Geoff Rowley, Mark Appleyard. These boys know what skating is all about. 411 issue 54, the Foundation team is in it, and I remember I used to watch it like everyday. My mom got sooo sick of it.
As for dirtbiking, Carey Hart...he's a handsome ol' man and a sick rider furrrsuree.
What’s your biggest accomplishment, either in riding or anything else?
Biggest accomplishment is getting the courage to do something. In this case it was skating. I got hurt all the time, but I never gave up, no matter how many bruises I had or how many swollen ankles I'd get. I still stuck it out. I still remember when I landed this 5 stair at my old jr. high. Best feeling. My friends were all encouraging me to stick it so I got all pumped up and, by golly I landed that beast!!! Another great feeling was when I landed some loading dock in the back of this Food Place...it owned!! One of my friends filmed me. It was definitely a magical moment. Haha. My Mom is funny; everytime I go skating and I come back she makes me walk in front of her to see if I'm okay or walking differently because when I get hurt I never tell her.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve heard and from whom? When and why did they give it to you?
My Mom always gives advice. She knows me better than anyone ever will. She's there when I cry or just need someone to talk too about my day. I love her very much!
What’s really important to you (and why)?
Music and all the books I write in because it's all my thoughts and feelings poured onto paper...and music because it helps me get through the day. Can't forget about my family!
What’s the best or the worst thing about your hometown?
Worst thing would have to be our air. LOL. Its actually worse than LA's air. The best part is that it never snows or hardly ever any storms.
Perfeccccctttt California weather forsurrree.
What’s Stella Luminosa…where did that come from?
It means "bright star". I was just doing research and what not.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself…projects, advice, links, closing statement, anything?
All I have to say is the SEED Project is Brillant, and my best advice to whomever reads this is to have fun with what you choose to do in life. Make good decisions because the good choices you make get you far in life. Never let someone tell you what to do and how to do it. Be your own person; never follow anyone because being your own person is what makes you YOU! I'm a real friendly chicka so feel free to write me....
YES! I do have a myspace. LOL. myspace.com/starlightdr
