FSM Pro-File: Bev V
by: Alex | Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Future Snowboarding chatted up our little Bev:
Fresh off a $25,000 win in Whistler, Bev Vuilleumier is one of the names in female snowboarding you should get to know. A staple for years in the Nikita Chickita events, Bev spent this past season in Tahoe, rounding her skills and stepping it up. You might not be able to pronounce her name, but she’s about to take the world of women’s snowboarding by storm. Check out this little video interview we did when she come through Portland to find out where she’s been, and more importantly, where she’s going.
Lauren's Backyard BBQ
by: Alex | Friday, May 23, 2008
Lauren Perkins—Mizzzz Perkins if you're nasty—had this to say about her Journeys BBQ... Check it out and then ENTER TO WIN the Lauren Perkins Giveaway.
Dear Diary,
-May 8
The first day was pretty mellow, just settled into the hotel. Had a late dinner around 11pm. Then just went back to the hotel because we all had to be up super early the next day.
-May 9
After waking up at 6am to do some stuff for the news, we all went to the Cracker Barrel and grubbed down on some breakfast. After that some of the Sole Tech workers and myself went and checked out some of the skate shops around the area. Then around 4 we headed over to one of the local parks where we bbq'd, skated, and I even announced a kickflip contest. Then we ended the night by going to a nice dinner with some of the Journeys people.

-May 10
After sleeping in till 11 we headed over to the Back Yard BBQ, which was in the mall parking lot. There were bands playing, guys doing backflips on their motorcycles and Sheckler, Fletcher, Leeper and I skating the mini ramp. I’ve never seen so many girls yelling for Ryan in my whole life... kind of insane. We did 3 demos and 3 autograph singings that day. We were out of there by 4. The heat was super draining so I went back to the hotel and napped for a few hours. Then we went to dinner and packed and got ready for our flights the next day.

-May 11
The trip ended up going really good and I had a lot of fun. Now I’m on an airplane going to spend mothers day with my family.
Eternally yours,
Lauren
Skate-O-Rama!
by: Alex | Friday, May 23, 2008
The Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama was one big mother-lovin' success!

The Skateboard Moms got great coverage in the Orange County Register.
The event also had lead-up coverage on the local PBS affiliate, KOCE, on its Real Orange program on Friday. The San Diego Union Tribune did a nice front-page story.
Overall, the Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama raised close to $2,000 for our charity and had 35 moms and aunties on board. No injuries either--always a plus. ;-) Thanks to our VERY generous sponsors, we raffled off thousands of dollars' worth of goods!
etnies was glad to be part of the event and donated several tote bags filled with sunglasses, socks, etnies girl DVDs, 6 Discount Shopping Passes to the Company Store, stickers and lots n lotsa love.

Sally Back On The Podium
by: Alex | Tuesday, May 20, 2008
Sally finished 3rd at the 8 Star Sunsmart Pro Junior at Trigg Beach in Western Australia over the weekend. That's enough to win the series for a second year, even with three events remaining! Sally was on the podium throughout the entire seven event series with her three wins, two second and two third place finishes to clinch the title.
"Fitzgibbons’ semi final result was enough to secure her back to back ASP Australasia Pro Junior Titles. With only three events remaining this year Fitzgibbons has amassed enough points to now give her the chance to defend her ASP World Junior Crown at the end of the year." - Surfing Australia

Journeys Backyard BBQ Photos
by: Alex | Thursday, May 15, 2008
Last Saturday was our day in Dallas and it was a hot one! Lucky for those Texans, the triple digit heat and scorching sun didn't stop the etnies team from heating things up even more at the Journeys Backyard BBQ.

Lauren, Eric and Kyle all love media interviews at 7am... especially when the interview is with this guy.
Texas is Eric Fletcher's favorite state.

Kyle Leeper still likes squirrels.

The ladies love Ryan Sheckler.

While dodging Sheckler fans' panties, Morgan Wade fires out one of his trademark high and mighty flairs.

GGOB In DC!
by: Alex | Thursday, May 15, 2008
Here's a little report from GGOB Washington, DC, where Courtney and the GRO team stopped to spread a little bit of happiness.
We pulled up in the van right as the area schools were letting out. We unloaded boards, pads and helmets to take to the park and St. Fracis De Salles's after school program was also heading that way.
Catching up with a few of the girls, we asked, "Do you skate? Do you want to learn how?" Most of the kids just sit around the bowl at Green Skate Lab just because they haven't had a chance to learn. Today was different. What started with a few curious girls being brave ended with the entire after school program having fun. The kids had a great time and a few actually discovered their natural skills.
We all had a great time and when the kids started heading back to get picked up by their families, we finished off the perfect day with some good old fashioned swag. They were stoked to take home some brand new decks, stickers and shirts. If smiles are any indication, it was an awesome day not soon forgotten.
To the staff at the program, thanks for helping everything run smoothly and look for us to come back in 2009!
GGOB may be heading to a skate spot near you. It's easy to RSVP online for any of our upcoming stops. Hope to see you soon!

Tarah In Transworld
by: Alex | Thursday, May 8, 2008

Who knew Tarah Gieger was such a talented artist? So impressive was her self-portrait that Transworld Moto gave it a whole page in their May issue.
The subtle use of color and proportions really help to communicate her pride and accomplishment in this larger-than-life moment. One can really sense her joy in putting on her bright red oven mitts and pulling out that fresh baked gingerbread masterpiece to add to her collection.
Well done, Tarah! You totally nailed this one.

Mammoth WCI
by: Alex | Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Mammoth's West Coast Invitational went down last weekend with the Vans Fiesta de la Pipa and The Village Rail Jam drawing a big enough crowd to make you forget how much gas prices suck these days.
Despite the action on the snow, the place to be, by a few different accounts, was the etnies/ThirtyTwo party pad. The top floor condo served as the perfect venue for pro hos, friends, spectators and birthday boys—namely Joe Sexton and Tyler Flanagan—to all celebrate and rain beach balls on the unsuspecting crowd below. Our buddies and weekend flatmates at FSM documented the whole thing for all to see. Go ahead and have a look.

A Rolling Perspective Gallery
by: Alex | Tuesday, May 6, 2008
The opening exhibition of A Rolling Perspective, presented by etnies and Color Magazine, went off without a hitch. And the ensuing after party at The Sweatshop likewise went off. The show is a collection of self portraits by skaters from all over, including our man Mikey Taylor. Check out the ginormous photo gallery to see what you missed out on. All photos by Ian Jolin-Rasmussen and Color Magazine.

by: Alex | Friday, May 2, 2008
Sally's sooooo stoked she's still surfing her super streak. Say that 10 times fast. Or just ignore it and congratulate Sally Fitzgibbons on her latest win. Today's victory at the Brothers Neilsen Pro Junior is Sally's third ASP win this year. She's still in the lead... just further ahead now.
“To be winning the junior ratings and the WQS (World Qualifying Series) ratings at the same time is just a really nice place to be sitting right now.” - Sally
The girl is ON FIRE. More contest details at SurfingAustralia.com.
